Located just outside of Toronto, Scarborough has a number of attractions for anyone staying nearby. If you are eager to learn more about the area or if you want to find a few good things to keep yourself occupied while staying in one of our furnished apartments, here are five things to do in Scarborough that the area is best known for.
1. Toronto Zoo
Wherever you are staying in the greater Toronto area, the Toronto Zoo is one of the most exciting and entertaining things to do in Scarborough and is perfect for families with small children. The zoo is massive, complete with a huge array of species from around the globe, including an incredibly popular Stingray Bay attraction where you can actually touch stingrays that have been de-stingered.
2. Scarborough Bluffs
Located along the shores of Lake Ontario, Scarborough Bluffs is a fantastic outdoor adventure, a large outdoor park with cliffs that overlook the edge of the water. It is perfect for a leisurely afternoon walk or for a day outside with a picnic.
3. Pacific Mall
If you need to pick up some new clothes or just like to shop, the Pacific Mall is as unique as you will find. As the largest Chinese indoor mall in North America, it boasts unique design, dozens of shops and vendors you will have never seen anywhere else and often plenty of events to entertain or engage.
4. Scarborough Historical Museum
Scarborough Historical Museum is one of Toronto’s 10 historical museums and is run by the city of Toronto, meaning you can get in with the city’s Cultural Access Pass. The museum is open all year except for Mondays and Statutory Holidays and they hold a number of annual events including Canada Day celebrations, Desserts by Lamplight and their Victorian Extravaganza.
5. Thomson Memorial Park
Thomson Memorial Park is a wonderful place to come and relax with your family or to take a nice leisurely walk. If you have a small dog, there are two off leash dog runs in the park and plenty of ball fields and walking trails for those that want to just soak in the sun and enjoy the area after a long day.
There are a huge number of things to do in Scarborough alone, and of course Toronto and its many metropolitan attractions are only a few minutes away. The next time you find yourself in the area, be sure to take into the local sites and enjoy what Scarborough has to offer.
